Iconic Notation Workshop

A few kids had their first experience with iconic music notation today. We started with exercises in rhythm and pitch (shown above) to put ourselves in the right frame of mind, and then took turns trying to write short melodies using iconic notation. This is when we use shapes, symbols, and squiggles to visually approximate what we hear. Results varied in this short lesson, but there's tons of potential with this method!
